Destination Weddings in the South Pacific

For many couples, the idea of eloping has taken on a completely different definition than in the past.  Now, people who elope often tell several (or many) people, invite friends and family and go together to an exotic destination to say their vows in a beautiful, remote locale.

If you’re thinking of heading off to the South Pacific to tie the knot, you’ve come to the right place.  There South Pacific’s countries are as diverse as they are beautiful.  Whether you’re thinking it’s Tahiti, Fiji (probably the most popular destination), or Samoa, there is something for everyone in the South Pacific.

The undeniable beauty of this part of the world leads many to choose it for their destination wedding.  But, there are a few things you should know before you pack your bags and head out to get hitched.

Here are some considerations for those traveling to the South Pacific for their wedding:

Know your destination country’s wedding laws and what paperwork you need to file.  Don’t forget that your marriage won’t be recognized in the United States until you exchange your vows here.

Check out what diseases may affect you while you’re in your destination country.  You may need vaccinations before you go to make sure you stay healthy.

Confirm all your plans and reservations—especially if you’re bringing friends and family along.  This isn’t like planning your wedding stateside and you’ll want to make sure all your ducks are in a row before you go.

Consider hiring a wedding planner at your destination resort.  While many have them on staff, you may want to consider bringing someone on board who can help you plan everything and understands how things work.

Be sure your passport is up to date.  While this seems like a no-brainer, you’d be surprised how easy it can be to forget when you’re harried with wedding planning.

Don’t go too remote.  While a deserted beach sounds like a great idea, it may be difficult for you (and your wedding vendors) to get there.

There are lovely resorts in almost all of the South Pacific that specialize in destination weddings.  With a little research and a little perseverance, you’ll find planning your wedding relatively painless.  Just be patient and keep a sense of humor if things don’t go perfectly.  No one will notice.  They’ll be too busy looking at all that amazing scenery.
